About

I'm interested in how brains enable animals (including humans) to act intelligently in the world and how to instantiate similar abilities in machines. To explore this, I build computational models inspired by the brain to control virtual agents and physical robots. My research in neuroscience-inspired AI and robotics is highly interdisciplinary and builds upon my background in computer science, machine learning, mechatronics, and neuroscience. In the past, I've made forays into human-computer interaction, language understanding, and common-sense reasoning. Focuses: neuro-inspired AI, embodied intelligence, computational neuroscience. Favorite Quotes: “Man is the lowest cost, 150-pound, nonlinear, all-purpose computer system which can be mass produced by unskilled labor.” – 1965 NASA report. “In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert's there are few.” – Zen master Shunryo Suzuki.
