Currently focusing on pandemic response with the COVID Tech Task Force ( and IEEE Humanitarian Activities Committee ( ~~ I was born in Tucson, Arizona to two loving parents who were fortunate enough to move to the United States from Syria. Although I started programming by building PC game mods when I was 12, my life changed when my dad bought me my first Mac: a PowerBook G4. I fell in love with Cocoa and the Darwin kernel, and tinkered with porting a wireless driver from Windows to the Mac. Around age 17 I taught myself to play the piano through YouTube videos, creating an obsession with music that has lasted to this day. Without a classical training, I focused on ear training and spent my free time transcribing the live music of the rock pianist Ben Folds. At 19, I decided to drop out of the University of Arizona, booking the first Greyhound I could get to the San Francisco Bay Area. I created The Rap Test, a song recognition test that went viral organically (100,000 players in the first 48 hours of launch), and was featured in industry publications such as Hypebeast, Complex Magazine, VICE, Business Insider and TechCrunch.
