About

A year ago I started designing directly in code. Not as an experiment. I just started designing directly in code with Claude Code and a few other AI tools on real projects with real clients and real deadlines, and it worked better. So I kept going. Nobody told me to do this. There’s no playbook for it. I’m basically figuring out what the design engineer role actually looks like when it’s your day job. Not a side project. Not a tutorial. Not a portfolio piece you built over a weekend. I’m posting about that transition here. The workflow, the client reactions, the career thinking, the stuff that fails. All of it. Because I couldn’t find anyone doing this who wasn’t talking about it theoretically. If you’re a product designer trying to figure out where AI actually fits in your career, this is for you. Not the hype version. The real one. I’m figuring it out too, just doing it out loud.
