Hylo's mission is to unlock the creative potential of communities and become a key platform for the future of working. It currently serves organizations striving to create positive change such as Ashoka, Impact Hub Global, Hive Global Leaders, and the Harvard Planetary Health Alliance. I ran the software engineering team at Hylo in support of that mission, in close collaboration with the CEO, a product manager, and designers. I spun up an Angular/Node.js/Postgres app for V1, later migrated it to React, and launched Android and iOS apps using a React Native codebase that shared code with the web app. Under my technical leadership, we added 5 engineers to the team, each in a different remote location, and established agile processes to keep us working well together despite the distances and timezones between us.

Worked on new feature development, maintenance, and analytics for a custom e-commerce platform at drinksoma.com, integrating Stripe for credit card payments, Unleashed for inventory management, and Xero for accounting. Provided technical support for online marketing campaigns. Worked with Ruby and Angular.js, including an experimental card-based administration UI as a single-page app (https://github.com/somawater/deckhand). Hired and managed several remote developers.

I integrated a new payment system, replaced a quarter-million lines of legacy code, and set up continuous integration processes (both human, i.e. code reviews, & digital, i.e. a Jenkins instance distributing tests across a dozen VMs) to support deploying to production five times a day instead of once a week.

Shred Union is a social network for snowboarders, offering riders a place to review equipment, meet other riders, plan trips, and have fun sharing their experiences.

3rd engineering hire. Helped grow the product from a prototype to a network in 40+ cities worldwide, serving 150,000 requests/second. Worked on full-stack software development, server administration, software architecture, sales engineering. Buzzwords: Java, Spring, HTTP, DNS, MySQL, distributed computing, HTML/CSS, Javascript/AJAX, Python, Django, Linux.

Worked on a system for synchronizing data between Palm Pilots and a database backend, using Python, XML, Oracle PL/SQL. Designed and implemented a distributed load-testing application for that data sync process, with a web-based control and reporting interface.
